I open raise this hand pre-flop. And get a couple callers after me and flop the world. I check and the person with the 8-8 hand fires off a bet. I call this bet and hope the other player stays in. He doesn't. I check the turn, hoping for another bet but, as I should have expected, he checks behind.
The river was not a great card for me. At this point, I am sure I have to bet but don't know how much. I eventually decide to go for a full pot-sized bet in the hopes that he has an Ace and thinks I am trying to get him off. Or that he has a 9 and calls even if he thinks I might have a King.
He ends up calling with 8-8. What did he expect to be able to beat on that board? What could I possibly have? That his K-K-9-9-8 beat when the board was K-K-9-9-6?
I'll tell you all a secret. I'm never betting 7-7 in that spot.![]()
