    Default July Monthly Goal

Here is my version of the monthly goal thread that I'm bumming off of Frob

I am going to state my goals so it's public and I can feel a little more pressure to actually fulfill those goals.

I'm shooting for Silver Iron Man status on FTP this month. I'll probably go for the 25 days of 50 points or more route. (this isn't a huge deal to me, but I feel like it'll help keep me on track for my other main goals) My main goal is to play no less than 750 hands, with intent to get 1,000 hands of $0.05/$0.10 poker for 25 days of the month. I'm going to estimate that that'll be a minimum of 50 hours of ring game poker for the month. I am going to try to throw in 30 hours of tournament/SNG play and/or 250 HU SnG matches. I will more than likely do some of both, so I'll make these two proportional. (If I play 175 HU SnG matches, I'll try to reach 9 hours of SnG/MTT play)

    So in a nutshell

    -July Goal-
A minimum of 18,750 hands of $0.05/$0.10 with 25,000 being preferred.
30 hours of MTT/SNG play and/or 250 HU SnG matches

    good luck man!

i just managed to get silver iron man last month (first time i'd got iron man) so i could get the mid-year bonus.
so i guess my goal for july is to clear the $50 bonus!

it is a grind though, felt like i spent way too much time playing last month just to clear that stupid bonus. hopefully i'll luckbox the silver freeroll and get rich

    Default Small Goals

My modest goals are as follows (all related to WSOP Main Event):

    1) Survive day 1 (based on history, about half the players get knocked out day 1)
    2) Survive day 2 (another 25% usually gone)
    3) Survive day 3
    4) Make it to the money
    5) Play good, solid poker and see what happens

In all honesty though, I'm just planning to enjoy the experience. I feel very fortunate that I am able to pay for the entry fee solely through online poker profit. Hopefully, this will allow me to play with less pressure.

So modestly, you are going to try to make $10,000 minimum in a month?

Gl though, hope it goes well for you.

No, not at all. I guess I need to be more clear. I was just saying that I was able to pay the entry fee with profit from my online poker activities. Using historical winnings to pay for this tournament should allow me to be less stressed about the buy-in than others who can't really afford it.

    Sorry for any confusion.

I wasn't confused... I was just saying, "modestly" you have as goal #4 to make it into the money, which is usually like low $20k right? I guess I should have said... something like, "So modestly, you are going to try to make $10,000 minimum in the main event?"

It's summer and I have no classes so there is no excuse for laziness!

    July goals:

    100k hands of 100NL
    Iron level Iron Man
    Clear mid-year bonus
    Cash out some more $$.
Do not play a single hand between 9am-3pm EST.

Very simple and non-results oriented; just the way I like it.

Why the no 9-3 rule? 100k is pretty mental, I agree.

I am betting it's because very few fish play during those hours and outside of those the quality of the players drops dramatically. Just a guess.
I get no respect. . . when I move all-in, people from other tables call.

You hit the nail on the head frob. Very few fish, hardly any whales, and more nitty regs than I can count. The morning and afternoon happy hours are usually good times to play and of course night time is the best. I get ~1k hands/hr 16 tabling.

Okay, here is my sad recap of my WSOP Main Event experience.

Day 1: Completely card dead. Started with 30,000 in chips, got as high as 34,000 and as low as 18,000 before finishing the day after 5 sessions (10 hours) with 24,000. Felt fortunate with my table draw...played at the same table all day where 7 of the original 9 survived the day. Goal #1 accomplished.

Day 2: New table draw. During first 2 hour round, managed to drop to 7,000 in chips before rallying back up to 32,000 at the break. Next round was 300/600 with antes of 75....card dead again for a while and dropped to around 24,000 chips again when this hand occurred:

9 handed....I'm in 3rd position....1st to act folds, 2nd to act raises to 1,700, I look down at 2 black aces....I raise to 3,500 (my first re-raise at this table today)....action folds around back to original raiser (active, aggressive player who has shown raises with A/rag, small suited connectors, etc.)....he has about 40k in chips and announces that he is all-in....I call and he shows two red kings

Flop 3 of clubs, 4 of clubs, 5 of clubs
    Turn Blank
    River King of spades

and with that one-outer, my tournament ends with a kick to the gut.

It is now two days later and I'm still nauseous as I type this.

To all who say online poker is rigged, I submit this hand that the bad beats can happen anywhere (live or online) and at all stakes.

Now I'm off to punch a wall.

That sounds really sucky. I wish we had gotten a story of "I won't know what place I finish in until we play the final table" instead of this story.

I've occasionally mentioned I know a few high stakes pros who used to go to my uni. One of them is still in on 545,000 (joint 89th) and yesterday lost a 240,000 pot when his aces got cracked by jacks. The guy who cracked them now has 705,000. Jamie Brown ftw!

That was definitely my plan. I'm just now beginning to start getting over it.
