Default Making fun of the Fish/Donks/Bad Players ETC...

Why do people feel the need to do this? It never ceases to amaze me, but I've noticed it a ton on FTP. It's just beyond me that people think it's +EV to make fun of other players while they are still at the table. Perhaps one of the most shocking moments in this type of scenario I think is when someone makes a bad call, and someone is like "you called with that?! You ARE a donk!" while at the cash table. Now do you expect them to rebuy?!

I was at the casino the other day playing $200NL. This guy that was at our table was TERRIBLE. He would call almost any raise pre-flop to the point that I would raise $25 pre-flop with premiums and expect to be called. When the flop hit, he usually wanted to stay to see at least the turn if he had ANY kind of chance to draw. We're talking, back door flushes/over cards/back door straights. He ended up giving me $85 or so when I flopped a boat and bet it the whole way. He finally laid his hand down on the river and told me he missed his straight. Shortly after he chased a runner runner straight and actually hit and beat a set of kings. The guy with the set was upset, but some other guy at the table berated the guy. This guy had dumped $400-$500 at the table and after he was made out to be a fool he got up and switched tables. I just don't understand at all why you would want that guy gone from your table. I got up shortly after with my $100 profit and called it a day as the easiest player to play against had just left and I was tired (I was on 2.5 hours of sleep lol... definitely not ideal playing conditions... I actually think I might have dozed at the table at one point). I'm also pretty sure the table broke up after another 30 minutes. I had to wait for my buddy so we could leave, but it was a good table that got destroyed because an idiot decided that he was all high and mighty and it was his place to set the soft player straight.

Sorry, but I had to rant. I just had this happen while I was playing online again. It pissed me off, so I figured I'd let my frustrations out here.

Making fun of the soft player at your table = -EV
Making them feel welcomed and keeping them around = +EV

    It's that simple.

I very much agree. I'm really quiet at the live tables, but I always say "Nice hand" or "Well played" to the players I know are fish. Even if I get unlucky against them, I don't feel the urge to trash their play. I'm not even phased when I get bad beated anymore. I kind of purged that from my system a couple years ago. It used to be instinct to stand up for myself and tell them they were bad, but it became so obvious how extremely -EV this was, and on a personal level, how bad it made me look. Encourage and compliment the fish, even if you're pissed off, because they'll start spewing more chips that way. And to be real, a lot of the bad players are really, really nice people anyways. Show some respect.

I agree as well. It pisses me off when people do that at the tables, whether live or online. It's pointless, needless and uncooth. Similarly, people teaching at the table is also annoying. Why would you tell the person what they're doing wrong so that they can take your advice and end up beating you later? That is monumentally -EV.

Yeah, I don't get it, I've never felt the urge. The only thing I've done is ask someone how much they'd have paid to chase their flopped gutshot (turns out a 2x pot shove on the turn would've gotten a call, my pot bet wasn't max value lol) so I could rinse them for more money later. And this was when I was playing out of my roll and couldn't really afford to be sucked out on...

I generally don't go to casinos much tho, the rake is obscene.

i don't mind when people taunt the donks in tournaments. it usually puts them on tilt and makes them play even worse. but it is pretty stupid in cash games. as far as "teaching" the only thing i try to teach them is not to bluff when there's an all in. i can take a bad beat. but that's the most annoying donk move there is.

This is unacceptable. You didn't even copy and paste his quote correctly. Someone please remove this post from this thread. When it's removed, feel free to remove this one as well.

Like how you tried to sneak your own advert in your signature too... smooth move, Exlax...

Too bad we don't have a kick button for members to use... Like say if 5 members with at least Senior status click to KICK someone, then that person gets Temp Banned until a Mod can take a look at it and edit or remove it. That would keep from too many people seeing their junk while the mods are not here to clean it up. Just a thought...

I think people make fun of fish because poker is such an emotional game. There are so many highs and lows... Sometimes people get so emotionally invested and when they take a horrible beat the energy inside them is so intense that it just bursts out and unfortunately gets directed to the person that just sucked out on them. I admit that I have done this before. I think we all did when we first started playing. We all know how we are supposed to act at the table. I think also it is much easier to antagonize people online because it is anonymous.

i know this happens alot. especially at the lower levels, and to be truthful alot of new comers play the low levels so its not their fault totally. they could be just learning the game. but i think that alot of it is because the idiots that berate the players dont understand. that just cause you have AAor KK that your suppose to win the hand, and ot pissed them off that they cant lay down the hand. because they automatically think just cause their ahead they should win. just like everyone else said we like the fish, donk, idiots, newcomers, and every thing else they have been called because in the long run you will always win

I think another reason it happens so often is because so many people feel if they win one game they are pros and know what they're doing.

Many players have a self-centered image of their own play, and form their opinions of all other players based off their own. Kinda silly if you ask me.

It's like asking someone for a fag in America and assuming they know you mean a cigarette and not a gay person LOL Assumption is the culprit when people make comments about other people's play as well.
