    Default Off beat poker games

Being the poker fanatic that I am, I'm always trying to brodden my horizons with different types of games.. Are there any "off-beat" poker games that you enjoy playing like tripple draw or bodoggie (i think thats what its called, hnestly cant even remember the rules for that one)? If you have a link with the rules for the game, post that also. I'll try to find liks for bodoogie and tripple draw and post them later

We do have a variation called scandinavian stud that is played over here in northern europe. It it played for ante, and has a straight and flush of four cards. The player whose cards make the best hand starts the betting.

The game is generally played by older men as a pastime, and that is how I first got introduced to the game. On a christmas day with my father and his friend, playing for cents. I must say it was boring

I don't know if Pineapple and Cursewell qualify as "off-beat" poker games, but they are popular games among our friends anyway. And lots of fun too

Pineapple (or Crazy Pineapple) is quite well known I guess. Here are the rules:

Each player is dealt three holecards (instead of two) at the start. One of these cards is discarded before the flop (in regular Pineapple) or after the flop[after betting] (in Crazy Pineapple, which is the more common version). The betting is the same as Holdem. At the showdown, a player can use any combination of his remaining two cards and the boardcards. A player who still has three cards in his hand at the showdown has a dead hand.

Cursewell is five card Omaha game. Rules are same as in Omaha with two differences.

    1. Each player is dealt five holecards.
    2. The first community card is dealt before the first betting round, so that each player has five private cards and the single community card on his first bet. Then two more community cards are dealt, and play proceeds exactly as in Omaha.

Cursewell is a variant of French poker game named Courcheval. Courcheval is played with four hole cards like regular Omaha.

that cursewell sounds like a pretty interesting game, I would find it really hard to bet with only one card on the table though...

I found the game that I was talking about in my original post.. Its actually called Padooki.

Padooki is a lowball 4 card game, so the idea is to make the worst possible hand.

There is a round of betting after cards are dealt, and then players can discard up to 3 cards. After this, there are two more rounds of betting which proceed in the same fashion.

A Padooki is any 4 card hand where all cards are of a different suit. A234 of all different suits is the best possible Padooki.

At showdown, If two players have a Padooki, the lowest possible Padooki wins. If no one has a Padooki, the lowest possible hand wins (each having at least two cards of the same suit). Ranking of hands is determined by going from highest card to lowest card such that A279 beats A23J.

That sounds like a great new mix to the game, it is good to spice it up a little once in a while huh.

I just like to stick to the basics, something easy for every one to play and enjoy. Texas Holdem is always fun to play. It's good also if your a beginner. But learning to play a new game is also fun. I think there are 1001 ways to play poker. Someone just needs to make up the rules.

If it is poker, I will play it. Many ways to play poker and its always fun to learn new ways to play poker. Like pokerface says if you make the rules I will play it. I am not much at making up new rules for a poker game, I just like to play it. Thanks for sharing your game winningedge. I will try it sometimes.

I have never heard of the game Padooki but it almost sounds like a broken down version of RAZZ. I do play RAZZ and I find it a very offbeat kind of game. It is so hard to remember that you are going after the "lowest" hand possible when you are staring at a Royal Flush.

That Padooki sounds like fun. I think I would like to play that amongst friends at first in order to get the jist of the game. As PP says RAZZ is a strange game too and I am just in the process of learning that one. I'm not sure if I like it or not. So that's why I would always start playing a "new" style of poker amongst friends.

I'm not even sure I like the 3 card poker that I have seen around for a while. I guess I'm just a plain ordinary "POKER" player at heart.

yeah, I just love playing a variety of games.. broddening your base of poker can only help imporve your understanding of the strategies behind playing poker too, so I think its good to mix it up every once in a while...

Another neat one that you may have already heard of (now that poker stars is offering it) is called HORSE, which is a fun way to mix up a home game. Heres how it works:

Assume we have 6 people playing at the table.

6 hands of Holdem are played, button moves as normal. (H)
6 hands of Omaha are played, button moves as normal. (O)
The button is frozen. 6 hands of Razz (7 card stud lowball)(R)
button still frozen, 6 hands of Stud (S)
still frozen, 6 hands of, umm, 7 card stud Hi/Lo (E??? Dont ask me, this is how its played )
    button resumes, play continues.

I find this incredibly entertaining myself..

I just started playing RedDog that is like AceyDuecy and I really like it. I had never played it in the casino before and this was just something that we played at the home games for fun but on my last trip I decided to give it a try. I did very well and I have been playing it a lot ever since.

I like Pineapple and Badugi...Pineapple's not that different from Hold em, but Badugi is a completely different ball game They are good when Hold em gets stressful, just to take a load off and do something different for a while.

Badugi is a great game. A lot of bluffing involved in that game.

Very often when I play a home cash games with friends and its dealers choice I often choose badugi or triple draw lowball.

Razz is also a fun game. Crazy pineapple is cool also. We also play fire in the hole.

It's a 5 card draw game where the lowest card in your hand is a wild card. Suffice to say there's some crazy pots with this game.

There's a bunch of other poker games I played when I was younger. Games like guts, pimp, baseball, scoop, anaconda, high spade in the hole games like that.

I think it's fun to mix it up from time to time. Playing just holdem can get tedious so any change is welcome.

Of the aforementioned games I play Razz, 2-7 triple draw, and PaiGow Poker.
I would like to learn (Crazy) Pineapple and Badugi.
Just want to mention that I really enjoyed reading this thread! All forms of poker interest me.

Lynda, you can find Badugi on Carbon Poker with players...a few other sites have it but it's hard to fill up a table anywhere other than at Carbon.

As for Pineapple, it's very simple. Take a typical hold em game, add one extra card preflop...then after a round of betting, you choose which two cards you want to play with and discard the extra one. Then continue as you would in a normal hold em game.
