Thread: Epic spam again

    Default Epic spam again

I am so sick of the epic spammers!!!

There are plenty of us regular long-term members that are on here every single day, at all hours. Let one or all of us have the powers to clean this junk up for you! Please!?!?!? It is an eyesore and will deter new members from joining, if it hasn't already.

I just logged on and was getting ready to make a similar post. The spam is currently 8 of 10 of the "recent posts." Truly a recipe for running a great forum. Let spammers take over 80% of the posting during Estonia's off-business hours.

    I agree 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 x infinity %.

Me personally, I go on here after work and look at the recent posts and see if there is an interesting topic that I can post on, or perhaps post one of my own if I have had that idea in my head for a while.

So to log on and see the past 9/10 of the recent posts all spam, it disappoints me to see the stupidity of some people in thinking we are as stupid as they are.

If one, a few, or all of the regular members on here had the power to at least report spammers like this, then we could have a friendlier, safer, and spam free environment in which we all can post and learn from others from. I don't go on here to see spam, I go on here to share my experiences as a poker player, and to learn from other poker players.

Edit: p.s. Love the new avatar lilady. In fact, I'm watching Family Guy right now.

    Agreed.

Spam should be deleted off of here and the offender should get anything from a warning to a ban, depending on how blatent and severe the offense. It's annoying.

That's part of the problem gamer... we all have the power to ''report'' this stuff, although we have to wait 60 seconds between reports, as the spammers post every 15 seconds... quite sensible, wouldn't you say?

    /sarcasm

Honestly, something needs to happen and soon or this is going to turn into nothing more than a breeding ground for spammers because one will tell his friend and his friends will tell his friends and so on and so forth until nothing is left BUT spam...

PS > What good is reporting when responses and efforts aren't made until hours later, when damage has already been done...

I'd say this "plan" is already 50% complete.

It won't take the spammers much more time to run everyone out of this here city, cause it ain't a big enough town for us and them. [/western voice]

Well my main thing is that there are plenty of us here that are willing to tend this garden and pull the weeds for no fee... only for the pleasure to keep Rakeback a pleasant and professional atmosphere... and yet all this valuable, free help is not being utilized. I just don't understand the logic behind it.

Agree with this idea totally.... None of the regular members would abuse this facility I am sure.

I think it'd be totally cool if rakeback staff would respond. Wonder if it'll ever happen. I'm almost to the point of joining lilady. I'll probably give it a week, and if the spam doesn't stop I just can't take it. Although, my posting frequency is going to slowly drop to nothing if the spam continues. Hopefully something will be fixed, because other than EliminateU we all hate spam and even canned-spam.

    Hello,

we try to clean spam as often as posisble and ban them. Also, from today users whos emails are not validated will not be allowed to post int he forum. Andrew will check what else we can do.

    Sorry for the incovnenience

I have two easy suggestions that would further eliminiate spam.

One: Have posts be reviewed before being actually able to be viewed. This way, you at rakeback would have to make sure they are not spam, or if they try to make the same request more than a few times indicating a spammer, it would not be posted until furthe review.

Two: When reviewing posts, you can create a code or something where if it detects that it is similar, or the same as another post, then it will not process because it will detect this and think it is spam. If they send an e-mail to support saying that it is a different post, then it can go into further review and if it is in fact a different post, then it will be posted. And if not, then it will detour the spammers from making the same request more than once.

I just think if two or 3 members "report" a post, it should automatically be pulled until the mods could review it. That way if someone is abusing their reporting ability, it can be removed for that user, and if there are spammers, we can take down their spam as a community. Also, if a member has 2 pending "reports" or something, they shouldn't be allowed to post until the mods can review. It'd take care of the situation.

Anyone notice the 8 new spam posts? I'm over it... it's obvious that the in-house crew don't want any outside help in eliminating this mess... so it's been fun... like I said before, all my closest friends here know where to find me. See ya.

Your voices are not unheard. We'll be looking in to these issues in two ways:

    1. Our programmer is looking for ways to automatically moderate spam. For example software that accesses known IP addresses and emails used by known spammers and/or bots, which will prevent creation of user accounts.
    2. We'll ask some active community members if they want to act as moderators at the forum, with ability to directly delete any spam or moderate inappropriate posts.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.
