Well, I've been battling my computer for the last month. I'm finally caving. Last night my computer got attacked which led me into a frenzy to try to make sure everything was clean, and I found a 2 malware/virus entries on my computer too. They were all very low harm files, but it still pisses me off. The attack was stopped by the programs I'm running on my computer and such as well, but I'm tired of dealing with this. Something has gotten into my system because it just isn't running as efficiently as it used to. I can't figure out where it is, so I'm reformatting. I'm on a slower internet connection, so it might take me a while, but I'm doing a complete reformat/wipe clean process beyond just the normal reformat. Whatever is in my computer is going to be gone. So, I have a few hours of backing up to do tonight, and then hopefully I'll be able to find all the drivers as I never received a driver disk when I had my laptop built. If something goes wrong during this, I might not be back for a while, but hopefully sometime this early morning I'll be finished, or tomorrow at the latest... but that's assuming nothing goes wrong.

And before anyone says "you should get a mac, they don't get viruses" or "that's why I have a mac" read this

I feel bad for anyone who has to use a mac. It's a shame good computers can't have better virus protection.

I'm thinking about getting a new desktop in a couple weeks. I need something good for poker and a huge monitor (or 2). I'mtaking a year off from college to live in a different state and play poker for a living, so I can't continue to use a dumper 7 year-old desktop anymore haha.

travz, I love playing with 2 monitors... I'd go that route if I were you. If I can ever land a job, I'm going to build a desktop that is capable of 3 monitors. I've been using two for 3 years now.

I hope you get it all sorted out, but if you don't, I hope you'll borrow someone's computer and see this message, so I can maybe possibly keep you from having to buy all that stuff. Good luck bud.

I'm borrowing my dad's laptop. I'm bored out of my mind. My computer has been working on clearing everything (I decided to use DBAN on my hard drive to ensure everything was gone) since I posted last. I've rebuilt two planes and now have all my books organized. It's amazing how much I've gotten done without computer access... but I had to get back on just to feel sane again. Addiction you say? Perhaps. Do I care though? Nah.

Thanks for the message. I was able to backup all my drivers with a freeware program, and the program will load the backup for free too. The only thing it won't due for free is let me update more than 2 drivers a day. So I think I'll be able to get everything back up and running after this.

If anyone reads this and ends up deciding to use DBAN... I will say, whatever you do, do not select the Gutmann method. For my 100GB drive, it was going to take 30 hours to do. Totally not worth it. I let it run for an hour before I took the risk of powering down my laptop and starting it over (you can't stop the process once it has been started). Luckily, nothing went wrong.

I think I'll probably finish up and be back on my own laptop around 5 or 6 central time, so within the next 4-5 hours. I'm hoping it'll feel like I have a brand new computer again. :::fingers crossed:::

Whew, I'm back on the laptop! Everything seems to be working, but I've got a ton of work to do now to get it up and running. Everything is so fresh and clean. It feels good. I've only run into one problem so far driver wise, and it's a minor inconvenience, but nothing that I can't work around until I find the fix.
