    Default Moving up the stakes

Hey guys fairly new to rakeback - but here goes,

    Deposited 500 dollars on FT - win 400 dollars at 4.5 BB/100 4 tabling 25NL, 6 max (17,000 hands). With the rakeback, I have 1250 dollars and take a shot at 50NL. I seem to be ok - win 500 dollars in 7000 hands (7 BB/100).

Then I go on a big downswing and lose all the money bar 15 dollars that I have won at 50NL over the next 10000 hands. PT3 puts me at 200 dollars -ev. So I got annoyed tonight - and withdrew 750 dollars leaving me 500, so I can start at 25NL. It has to be said that I monkey tilt more at 50NL.

The issue is though - I now don't know where I stand; should I have played more hands at 25NL regardless of my BR, was I just running well at 25NL; will my game at 25NL be good enough to win 50NL. Or should I have kept at 50NL.

Also one last note - how do people stop monkey tilting?

Drop down to $10NL and see how you do. That should tell you over a decent sample size if you were just running well at $25NL or if you are solid without very much bankroll risk at all.

THere is no stopping the urge unless you have some kind of super discipline.
just try to stay calm and play what ever it is youre winning at.

I would recommend playing at least 30k hands of 25NL 6max this time and then move up if your winrate is 2BB/100 or higher. Set a stop loss for yourself at 50NL, such as maybe 4 buyins. When/if you lose 200 you drop back down until you have earned back the $200 you lost. Once thats done take another shot. Rinse and repeat until it sticks

Remember that variance means you have an edge most the time, but that's a small edge so you will lose 5 buy-ins in a row once in a while and if you are unlucky 10-15 buy-ins.
Keep that in mind when you lose a couple of buy-ins and call it a night rather than keep on playing higher stakes when you don't feel right and have lost the edge. You need to take the hit without exploding. Playing lower stakes is rarely a bad decision, moving up usually is.
