Default FTP Deposit bonus = scam for tournament player?

    Hi guys,

First post here. Anyway, I'm considering depositing $50-$100 at FTP. Considering the deposit bonus is only on the first deposit, it doesn't seem mathematically possible for me to get anything out of the deposit bonus. Here's what I mean:

If I deposit $50 and just want $5 (only one 10% increment) and I play $5+$0.50 tournaments, I need $5/0.06 = 83.333 pts, or need 83.333/7 = $11.90 raked from me, which means I must play 11.90/0.5 = 23.8, or 24 $5 + $0.50 tournaments, which is impossible given my first deposit is only $50 [I'm assuming by "first deposit" they don't include winnings I get from tournaments]. A similar arguments holds for any amount deposited in the $50-$100 range.

Though according to my calculations, I can get only one $20 bonus if I deposit $528 or more and play 96 $5+$0.50 in 120 days (5-6 tournaments a week). To get 2 $20 bonuses, I must deposit $1050.50 and play 191 tournaments in 120 days (1.6 tournaments/day = impossible).

This is not impossible at all. I realize it's much harder for MTT players to clear the bonuses, but 1.6 tournaments/day is easy. Right now I'm putting in around 35 SnG's a day at stars in order to clear a bonus and this is taking me around 2 hours a day. All you would have to do is register for 2-4 tournaments at a time, and then play every other day or so and you'd be able to clear that bonus with ease. Multi-tabling really helps out when it comes into putting in volume and clearing bonuses. Good luck grinding.

    Dew-
Right, playing simultaneous tournaments is an option.

(I should've left out the "impossible" part. What I meant was "impossible" for me, I have a busy schedule, and of course not all tournaments of my interest start at the same time)

    I'll consider that

You are looking at this all the wrong way. You are phrasing things as if you plan on losing every single tournament out of the money, but assuming you don't lose 100% of every single buyin you pay to enter a tournament (or otherwise run out of funds) then your initial deposit is inconsequential to your ability to clear the bonus. If you deposit $50 then you have the option to buy into tournaments with that same $50 over and over and over again until you have earned adequate FTPs to clear the bonus.

All in all I think full tilt's bonus is very reasonable in terms of "clear-ability" but for 1-tabling MTT's I can see where this would become an issue. I suggest adding some low stakes cash games on the side to both aide in alleviating boredom and helping to release more bonus.

Thanks Raw. I thought that once you exhaust the first deposit your ineligible, i.e winnings don't count as your deposit so you can't get bonuses from money entered into tournaments from money won from tournaments. I'll rerun the calculations later when I'm less tired.

Quick question: Does Poker Stars have a tournament dollar currency like FTP? I don't see any clues in the cashier.

    Thanks in advance.
