To Be OR Not To Be
High Stakes Poker Season 6
advantage of online poker:
1. Multitabling
It is possible to play a lot of tables at the same time, so if you are a profitable player this will increase your winnings extremly.
2. More bad players
Online poker is for everybody who wants to play some poker.
There are a lot of rich people out there who dont care to lose a lot of money.
Compare to live poker the field is mostly much less skilled.
3. Home
When you play online you can also watch television, surf a website.
Grab some snacks, smoke some joints, that kinda stuff.
4. More options
Play the game you like cause there are so much options that it is impossible to not found the game you like.
Hand history
Cassier
FTP Points
Check your results online.
And much more.
5. Around the world
Play with players from different countrys all around the world, that is pretty cool!
Disadvantage Online poker
1. Connection
It is possible that your internet connection fails and if you play high stakes that can be a real disaster!
2. Money
Sometimes the money doesnt look real cause it is digital, it can affect your play (too loose). This can also be an advantage cause if you play to tight you won't win either.
3. Hackers
Speaks for itself, I dont know how big the chances are to get hacked by somebody.
Advantage Live poker
1. Communication
It's more fun to talk to somebody irl
2. No connection needed
3. Real chips
It is nice to play with your chips and do some magic tricks

4. The biggest tournaments in the world
WSOP main event is such a tourney, won't see these tourneys online.

The average live player is much worse than the average online player. It's not even close.
Think for yourself. Question authority.
Additional disadvantages of online poker-
Staring at a back-lit monitor for hours upon hours isn't great for the eyes.
No physical tells are available.
As travz said, play is tougher online for the given stake. I've found that $5NL-$10NL online = $200NL live.
yea i must agree with that, the live players on the big tournements are just bad, because a lot of amauter players, thx specnuder for the explenation.

There are a lot of good online players but the average player online is worse than the avarage live player imo.

no chance m8, avarge live player is much worse then avarge online player, if u just go a lil up by stakes u'll find that out, most live players never do moves, play by the book, they always bet when they got it, never trap.

Do you guys use the 4-card deck? I feel using a four card deck online will train you to be lazy in a live game, unless you play just as much as live as you do online.
I use a 52 card deck.
Haha, but in all seriousness I use the 4 color deck online and have absolutely no trouble using a 2 color deck live. This is probably due to playing 12 tables online and only one very slow moving table live. It's not too difficult to check for suits in the snail paced speeds of live play. You see flush potential so much easier with a 4 color deck, so I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to use something that is most likely +EV.
Not using a 4 color deck if you multitable is costing you money. And if you can't remember 2 cards in a live game something is wrong with you, no matter what color deck you use online.
Think for yourself. Question authority.
Lol, good catch dew. Yeah I agree, you have no choice when you multitable.
Travz-
Not sure what you mean by remembering your cards. What I was asking was when you're playing live, are you less likely to notice running suits etc, or if you're playing stud/stud8 are you less likely to notice flush draws when all of your opponent's cards are red for example.
Speaking of playing live stud, you may get used to seeing all 4 different colors (not checking the actual suits) on 3/4th st online and unconsciously develop your play/decisions based on that, vs when you play live you only see 2 colors and now you're forced to do something you don't usually do, and that is checking shapes (suits) vs. color. I know it's very subtle, but it's still something that can affect your live game.
I guess that's the main point, training your brain to see color vs. shapes.
Just because I'm only looking at colors online doesn't mean I'll forget what suits look like in real life. Just like I don't forget how to talk because I'm typing all day in forums. I still remember how to form sounds with my vocal chords.
Think for yourself. Question authority.
Yea, of course, but the mistakes are unconsciously made, i.e "stupid mistakes." Of course you know what a flush is, and of course you know what a runner runner flush is. But when your brain has been trained to detect colors instead of shapes, there could be that one hand where it comes running diamonds and you don't notice it b/c you're use to the board going blue blue on the turn and river.
I mean, why do use the 4 color deck in the first place? So you don't make stupid mistakes. All I'm saying is that when you play w/ a deck without the four colors (live), those mistakes may happen more frequently then when you didn't use the four color deck. The difference may or may not be material.
I use a 4 color deck because I'm playing over 2k hands an hour and don't have time to look at shapes of suits. I would have to be retarded to make any kind of mistakes playing a measly 20 hands an hour live, much less make a visual mistake. I think you're looking too far into this. Experienced players just don't misread boards, period. If they do, it's from lack of caring or concentration, not because they play with a 4 color deck online.
Think for yourself. Question authority.
