Default Problem with my Live Play

well i played live the last weekend 2 games, 1 game i win 30$, and no problem, money was on the table and i got what i've earned.

But, in the 2nd game i won 70$ and 1 guy owned the game 35$, then after the game end, i was the only big winner so he said he will give me the money in the next 3 days.

i didnt know him but he gave me his phone and i said, Ok no problem..
1day later i called him to remind him and he said the other players on the game cheated and the will give him the money back and thats how the call ended.

1day after [ 2 days after the game ] he said to me the guy who cheated and got some of the money is sick, therefore he cant contact him cuz he's ignoring his calls and he dont have a car...

now he's not answering me and i dont have any idea what to do...

    any advice?

Where were you playing? Home game?

Usually you can tell if people will be sketchy about returning money, prop bets, etc., but sometimes even people that seem trustworthy can screw you over. I don't know how old you are or how old the people you're playing with, but sometimes a good confrontation is all they need for them to pay you back. If you keep calling him he might just find more reasons to delay the payment. See him face-to-face and I bet you'll get the money.

Sounds like you got horsed. Chalk it up to experience and a lesson learned, and never make that same mistake again.

Definitely do not give up. Get the person who invited him to get the money if you can't meet with him. You can't let people scam you like that at the poker table.

What you did is generally good for the game. It gains people's trust and makes them want to come back in the future since you make it seem like a friendly home game. When people bust early in a session and nobody spots them money, they feel unwanted and more than likely won't think too highly of you or the rest of the players. This is how games permanently break up. If people aren't stingy with their money and people actually pay each other back, you can have really fun and long lasting home games.

"i like baseball bat" - how is that attached with the topic?

i know i cant let people scam me, and letting people owing money for the game is good for the trust, but that guy said the other players have cheated and he wants his money back from them, and now they're fighting and i cant see myself getting my money...

It's harsh and unfortunate but no IOUs at the poker table. When I was growing up, my family had a strict rule about "playing behind." You just could not do it. If you did not have enough money to play, you could borrow it from another player but the IOU itself never went into play. The logic being, You might trust Zac to pay you the $10 he owes you but you can't expect Mary to have the same faith in Zac. So when you allow Zac's IOU to go into play, you're basically freerolling against Mary and all the people who don't have the same reason to trust that person.

If that person wanted to keep playing, he should have found someone willing to loan him the cash. If he was unable to produce cash on hand, tough luck. This is especially important in some states, like Florida, where gambling debts are legally unenforceable -- so an IOU won in a game of poker is worthless.

One other house rule we had growing up was that all outstanding IOUs must be settled upon objection before a player was allowed to join a game. For example, last week I borrowed $20 from Sue. Then when I show up this week, before I join the game, Sue had a right to object to my playing unless I settled up on her IOU. So I would have to pay up right there and then could only play with what I had left. Revolving IOUs were allowed -- so Sue could grant me another IOU and let me join the game but she had to agree to it or I could get one, from another person, large enough to pay off Sue's interests. In similar standing, all IOUs that can be settled should be settled at the end of the game if the player has anything to cash out and adjusted to reflect the new balance. As is really obvious, they're a pain in the ass. But we did use them to keep games going that wouldn't have happened otherwise.
I get no respect. . . when I move all-in, people from other tables call.

Good point, Frob. I read the OP wrong. I thought he gave the guy $35 to play with. Just having an IOU floating around to whoever wins is never good. Whenever I'm playing a home game and someone runs out of money, I'll immediately ask if they want me to spot them. I'm kind of the default spotter. I don't want them to buy in with IOUs or ask someone else who is uncomfortable with spotting.

Frob, that's essentially how we deal with all of our games too. For someone to get chips, money had to be put into the "bank" for those chips. Letting people buy-in with IOU's to the "bank" is just asking for trouble I think. Letting someone else buy-in for the bust player allows any issues that arise to only be between those two people. Letting an IOU buy in to the "bank" puts it as an issue among all players. It just doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Especially if there are unknown/new players to the specific game going on.

I hate to break it to you but in this day and age, money makes the world go round, friend or not. I love my friends but if they are truly my friends then they know and understand that if there's a poker game, having funds is part of the bargain. I'm not letting anyone skate for free in a home game... it's not fair to those who have paid their fair share. When I schedule a game, the rules are set out ahead of time so everyone knows they are expected to present their buy-in at the door.
