    Default Final Fantasy XIII!!!

Well, I lost a good chunk of money last night, and I guess it came at the perfect time. I forgot FFXIII was being released today. I'm going to go buy it, and it'll be perhaps the last game I play obsessively for a while since I'm off to grad school this fall (most likely). I guess this will count as a decent break from poker since I'll have almost 0 desire to play. I'm not even a huge rpg fan, but for some reason I just really want to see this one. I did play through FFX, and then the previous rpg's I had played were all back on the NES... haha.

I'm really into RPGs but never had an xbox or playstation to play any of the final fantasy games.

I never had an Xbox but I frequented a buddy of mine's house a while back and got hooked on the Fable games... I also like FF and there is a Japanese one called Onimusha that has a good series. Recently Carrie got me into God of War... we have 1 and 2 but we can't get the 3rd one b/c it's for Xbox or PS3 and we only have Wii and PS2

I still remember the first RPG I ever really played ~ it was on Gamecube ~ Phantasy Star Online - some kickass weapons in that one lol

The only role playing game I liked was Miracle Warriors for Sega Master system. What are you going to grad school for Dew?

I didn't go to the store to purchase the game, I ended up getting it online. After waiting for almost a full 2 years for the game, what's another few days? Lol, I did get a lot better deal. I'm so ready for it to get here though.

As far as RPG's go, I don't really remember playing too many other than the Final Fantasy series. I think I've tried out a few, and just not really liked them that much. I guess I got so excited about this one because it's been since my freshman year in high school that I've played an RPG, and now that one from the FF series is finally out that should be solid for the PS3, I'm really ready for the eye candy. I'm really hoping I'm not let down.

I'm going to grad school to attempt to get my PhD in chemistry specifically, organic chemistry. So I imagine once things get started there, it's not going to be the easiest degree to get haha.

Only 5 hours into the game, but it definitely provides eye candy if nothing else. The battle scenes are a heavily modified turn-based style now... it's really not turn based at all, but you just have to wait for your action bar to charge to be able to do anything, which kind of still has the turn based element to it, but it's so different. I'm definitely not able to adapt to new game styles as quickly I used to be, but it's pretty fun so far. You also only "control" one character during the fighting scenes, and you tell the other characters how to fight based on the current tactics you have set for the match. You can change at any given point though.

I'm playing FF3 right now for SNES. It has the turn based style like you mentioned, where your action bar has to charge up. You can control everyone in this game, though. Supposedly it's one of the best video games ever made, and I'd have to agree so far.

Well, FFXIII is "real-time" more so than turn based. It's pretty hard to describe... I obviously did a poor job of it. I don't know.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_f...#Battle_system That explains it better. Are you actually playing FF3 on the SNES or the computer?

Yeah, that sounds a lot more advanced. It's the same concept, though. And I'm playing on my computer.

I see I see. Yeah, it makes the game feel similar to a typical "adventure" type of game... but you are still just giving the player commands and stuff. Like I said, it's taking me quite a bit of time to adjust to it after playing FFX as the last rpg I played. At times I won't even realize it, but I won't have given the last command for who my character is supposed to go attack, so I actually lose out on some hits. There is a scoring system too based on how much time you take etc. I don't know, it's pretty fun, just very different from what I'm used to. I'm not the gamer I used to be at all anymore lol.
