Default High Stakes Poker Season 6 Episode 5

    **Spoilers in the Thread**

Just wanted to know everyone's thoughts on this episode. It was a really solid episode in my opinion, but wow, the last hand... I have even more respect for Ivey and Dwan both after watching that hand. If you haven't seen the episode, I suggest you watch the entire thing. But, here is the last hand as well if you just want to see it.

After reading around too, the river decision apparently took at least 5 minutes longer than what was televised.

I know right? I would have absolutely loved a river call. This all apparently was taped during the time when Durrrr lost his $5 million to Isildur too.

Surely if Ivey can even contemplate a call then it's an awful move by Dwan? Would've been one of the sickest calls ever though...

I have a good feeling Dwan knew Ivey had a flush draw w/ an ace.

Yeah but it hardly makes any difference to Ivey whether a 6 or a 2 hits on the river.

I don't know. I feel like Dwan trapped himself into having to fire the 3rd barrel. I don't understand everything that goes on among the high stakes players, so I'm not going to try to comment on if Dwan's bet was brilliant, awful, or standard... I just can't believe he still had the guts to fire that big of a third barrel with 9 high. I loved that Ivey actually considered calling as well. The bluff worked, so I'm not sure I could say it was awful... but I don't know.

Yeah, that's what I don't like about this style, it's outrageously aggressive, but I guess it works for him. But for once I think this a good bluff, I can only picture Ivey having something like Ax (diamonds), Q9 (diamonds) or J8 (diamonds) just the way pf action went down. Had he flopped something like 2 pair or trips, I would've expected a reraise by Ivey on the flop or at least turn (though trips suggests he limped in w/ TT, QQ, KK which is absurd). Even if he had the nuts w/ AJ (non diamonds), I would expect a reraise on the turn b/c if a diamond hits the river or if the river pairs the board, Dwan gonna bluff big and you're stuck w/ a nasty decision, though if he's thinking about calling w/ a pair sixes, I'm sure he's calling w/ a straight. I dunno, I guess it's easy to run the analysis when it's not your money.

I rly dont like dwans style, it is very entertaining to watch tho but in this hand all he had was PURE luck
Ivey could have easily flopped the nuts, the way he played the flop and the turn.
Only advantage of this kind of style is that he creates an unpredictable status.

He's also playing way above stakes that pretty much anyone posting on this thread can only dream of being capable of playing. He has more than just "pure" luck. That's a relatively laughable statement.

Durrrr reps any flopped set or AJ. Ivey has none of that in his range. That's why Dwan kept firing. The only hand Ivey could possibly have is J9 if Durrrr was going to lose. Obviously if Ivey was actually thinking about calling that incredibly weak, bluffs like that shouldn't be made again haha. Against any other person at the table, Durrrr would have easily won the pot with those stack sizes. It was a pretty good situation for Dwan to be bluffing because of both of the players' apparent ranges, which I think Ivey knew Dwan knew. Getting into a 900k pot with 4th pair is still hard to do even if you have as much money as Ivey.
