    Default Card trick

I remember seeing this trick a long time ago but I can't remember where I saw it.

When he is going through his story, watch closely to how he "cuts" the deck each time to give the appearance that he's continuously changing the order of the cards. He isn't actually cutting the deck and re-arranging anything. Also when Ellen cuts the deck and he has her cut it again and again, the order of the deck isn't changed. That's another common trick used for card tricks. If you don't see it, try it with a deck that's in complete order... when you cut the deck, you can replace the bottom on the top and continue this process inevitably without it ever changing the order of cards... the deck won't start and stop at the same cards, but the order isn't changed. The trick is in the way he gets back to his original starting point for the stacked deck. I'm pretty sure there are a few different methods of doing that, but he does do one last cut before telling the story, so one card in the deck could easily be slightly bent to let him know where he needs to do this last cut to get back to his starting point. Also, there is something really funky when he "shuffles" the deck at the very beginning, and it appears as though he does a regular shuffle and then at the point where you would normally "bridge" the cards he does a quick trick in pulling the cards back out of the shuffle and slides them back into his regular order. Watch near the back end of the cards after his shuffle, it appears that he pulls the cards apart from the back end... I'm not completely familiar with the technique used for this, but I did notice the funkiness the first time I watched it.

The bottom line of the trick is the deck is a stacked deck to begin with, then it's fancy showmanship throughout the trick in order to give the illusion of a shuffled deck. If you stop the shot of the very beginning of the trick as well, you'll see the three Q's already together, and the Aces are already lined up near the end of the deck.

It's impressive and he's solid at all the false shuffles, but it's still a stacked deck. As for the What the Hell card, I have a deck that uses what I would assume is his technique for hiding the card. I almost guarantee you the card is in the deck, but you don't see it when it's fanned out in the beginning. The way that is done in the deck I own is the side you don't want visible is sanded very lightly and even possibly coated very lightly with something... I'm not sure exactly what, but you can actually feel a texture difference on the face that you want to stick. Then the card actually grips to the other cards when they are fanned like that, so it isn't ever visible.

Haha anytime. But nah, I can't do many tricks at all. However, during my senior year, I took two courses with a professor who also did professional magic on the side. As treats to his classes he would take a break in the middle of class and show us a trick or two. (In a MWF class for a half a year, that adds up to a lot of tricks ) He didn't tell very many secrets of his tricks, but I would notice something peculiar in his trick, and since I had the class with him the next hour too, I just watched specifically for the "peculiar something" in that trick. Then because I was in both classes, we talked about some things when the first class let out after everyone left, and he taught me a lot and let me in on how he the generalized methods he used for various tricks, so I guess I kind of developed an eye for some of the techniques they use. I wish I could do them, but I don't have the dedication to working on the techniques to where people wouldn't spot the "illusion" aspect of what I was doing.

Haha, I just rewatched it. The 6 of spades is his marker card. The corner of that card is actually bent, so that's how he's able to determine where the "end" of his story should be with the cards. Also, you can notice him mess up and he actually has to take a card and look through his deck to get it back in the correct spot. He knows that deck ridiculously well to know exactly where the misplaced card is supposed to go.

Your analysis is very good Dew. I didn't even notice the 6 of spades was bent until u said so. When he told Ellen cut the deck I wish she would have pick it up and shuffled it. HAHAH that would have fucked him up

Btw, thanks for posting these card tricks. I really do enjoy "magic" tricks. Sorry if I ruined the trick for any of you. I just love admiring how well people pull these tricks off once I know how the trick is done. I'm guessing if Ellen had actually jacked that deck up, he would have decided to do a different trick too

Glad you liked them. I remember when I was a kid I saw this on one of those magic shows on tv... they would have magicians do little tricks like this and at the end they would always make a space shuttle disappear or something like that...
