Default Crazy run at the casino!!!

Okay well for starters im new on here. The name is jake. Me and my best bro play online (mainly the ftops events, GOIN FOR THAT JERSEY!) and also at the casino.

Lately online has been up and down and the bottom line is a $300 profit playing something like $5000 worth of tournament entries. UGH!! is right.

    Well the story!!!

Yesterday after work we both rolled up to washington (we live in oregon) to play the 4-16 spread cash game. We are 20 and 19 and its the only 18+ poker casino around.

Well I walked in and got a seat right away while my buddy sat rail on the wait list. I sat in with $400. Pretty standard for the table. I look around and the average stack is about 500 with a few $800+ stacks. Most of the players are the retired old couts who like to burn time playing the game. Most of them are pretty solid but are down lifetime.

I sat in on a kill pot. This is where the limits double because someone won 2 hands in a row. so I sat into a 8-32 spread hand sitting in the hijack seat. I am dealt QJ of hearts. At the casino you usually play suited face because they have high hand and royal bonuses worth thousands.

Seat 3 raises the action to 25. Folded to me. I call. Folded to the bb who also calls

flop J J K with 3 suits showing no hearts.

bb checks, seat 3 bets out 32 (max bet.) I call, bb raises to 64, seat 3 and me both call.

    Turn J

seat 3 checks, I check, bb bets 32, seat 3 raises to 64, I call, seat 3 calls, I call.

    River 5

seat 3 bets out 32, I raise to 64, bb 3 bets to 96, seat 3 calls (looks really frustrated) I cap it at 120 and they both call.

BB quickly flips over KK for kings full of jacks, I quietly turned over quad jacks and seat 3 flips over AA and goes "YEAH BABY SHIP IT!" I looked at the board again like WTF and then was all better when the dealer pushed the jacks up with mine. Seat 3 freaked out and stormed off. BB started calling me a total idiot.

was I an idiot? 25 pre was a standard raise for a kill pot and an easy call when hitting a royal banks you 10K.

The pot was $840 after rake!!! It took me 30min to stack all my chips between hands. I looked at my buddie and he looked back. We left there 30min later. I had $1,150

Up $650 in 40 hands thanks to the biggest live pot of my life!!!

Nice pot!! The AA guy needs to learn hand rankings because he has the 3rd best hand.

I really hate spread games. We have either limit or spread in Minnesota. No NL. You can't punish the tons of bad players in live games when it's limit, and can a little more in spread, but in NL you can clean house.

The QJs in hijack is kind of an iffy call imo. You're never +EV in live casinos to stay with hands that can get you the jackpots, so calling for that reason is not logical. Secondly, positional power doesn't come into play as much when you're playing non-NL games. It's just hard to put enough money into pots to get people off hands. Implied odds are also way worse with drawing hands, which QJs is, since there is a cap on the size you can bet when you hit. Because of that, in spread and limit games, the higher hands have much greater value compared to NL. So basically every move you make is for value in limit and spread limit, and QJs doesn't fare well against an EP raise range. If you think they'll call you down with really weak holdings when you hit top pair or better, then you're getting the right price to call.

In a NL game this would definitely not be a fold and could have arguments made for calling or 3betting.

Limit you can only bet 1 size. Spread you can bet anything in between the spread. Like in 4-16 spread you can bet anywhere from 4 to 16 at any time.

Thanks for the feedback. The table was pretty loose and people were raising to 8 pre with anything from AA to 56s. So in my opinion it was well worth the call to see the flop.
