Default poker

Recently i have been playing alot fo poker. I enjoy it alot when I win but not so much when i lose. I usually make it pretty far in tournaments but barely ever get 1st i always have a good chip count and im always playing smart poker. But sometimes i dont know if im playing smart sometimes i re-raise with A 9 and my opponent has Q Q once i re-raised he moved all in what should i do in that situation? I lost the hand and the tournament. But i was just wondering if any of you more experienced players could help me out here.

There are very few situations in tournament play where reraising with A9 is acceptable. I'm sure some of the regular posters will go deeper and ask the usual "position.....stacks sizes....blinds..." and 20 other questions and confuse you. My advice is to stay away from hands like A9 since you just started playing. Play only premium hands and expand your range slowly while you gain experience and confidence.

Great advice here... just last week I took the plunge and started playing KK!!!! Woo!
LOL, jk... but yeah, good advice. Start getting a feel for it, slowly you will realize you will be able to start picking up more tells and will be able to to expand your range.

A9 is actually a decent hand deep in a tournament when the blinds are getting high and you have a healthy stack. People tend to play extremely tight with big blinds, so it's a great way to steal blinds/antes from late position. Not to mention of course the fact that changing gears is pretty much a must in poker so if you've been playing very tight and not getting hands, why not play one of those or suited paint connectors once in a while...

I wouldn't do that....A-9 isn't that good...unless you are shortstack...

Yeah, each to his own of course. I've noticed though that with a healthy stack it's very easy to bully the players sitting in the blinds. Works, at least for me, easily enough to make it EV+ move to steal. No reason to be stupid though... Gotta have the right kinds of players in the blinds, not the types that will call you with J7s...

Stealing the blinds you can do with pretty much any hand deep in a trourney and with a healthy stack. How many hands actually go to the flop deep in a tourney (excluding freerolls and micro buy-ins), something like 7-10% so its not about what you have but how you sell it. The question was about reraisng with A9 and thats a whole different story.
