Carbon Poker vs. Americas Cardroom Rake Comparison

By Taylor Cuccia, Rakeback.com Contributor

In this edition of poker rake comparisons, we pit US-facing big guns, Carbon Poker and Americas Cardroom, against each other.

Using some of the most common poker games and stakes as comparisons, you'll be able to see which site offers more favorable rake for which games.

Let's see who wins!

Note that these rake figures are averages, and each player's style will affect their rake paid.  In general, tighter players will pay less rake than loose players.

No Limit Holdem

Stake 6-Max NLHE (bb/100)
Carbon ACR
25nl 9.95 9.91
50nl 8.90 9.00
100nl 7.79 7.64
200nl 5.70 5.71
400nl 3.84 3.77

Shown in the table above, Carbon Poker and Americas Cardroom alternate small edges in 6-Max NLHE rake from stake to stake, with Carbon having the advantage in 50nl and 200nl and America's Cardroom taking 25nl, 100nl and 400nl.

It's insanely close, but if we had to declare a winner in this category it would be ACR.  They win 3 of the 5 most common stakes, their edges are bigger on average than Carbon's, and they have an advantage at 400nl, favoring players looking to move up.

Full Ring

Stake Full Ring NLHE (bb/100)
Carbon ACR
25nl 7.35 7.11
50nl 7.40 7.28
100nl 6.66 6.58
200nl 5.11 5.11
400nl 3.69 3.65

The Full Ring NLHE picture is a bit clearer, with ACR showing slight edges in all major stakes except 200nl, which is a draw.  Thus, this category as a whole goes to ACR as well.

PLO (6-Max)

Stake PLO (6-Max) (bb/100)
Carbon ACR
25plo 21.02 20.97
50plo 18.04 18.03
100plo 14.21 14.39
200plo 9.97 10.19
400plo 6.62 6.60

Rake in 6-Max PLO shows mixed results.  ACR has slight edges in 25plo, 50plo and 400plo, while Carbon has slightly more significant edges in 100plo and 200plo.  Because of these edges in the key mid-stakes games and how slight their disadvantage is in the other stakes, Carbon gets the split decision victory here.

Buy-In Level Tournaments
Carbon ACR
<7 11% 11%
<60 11% 11%
<500 8% 9%
500+ 6% 9%

Carbon and ACR both show very similar tournament rake structures.

Below the $60 buy-in level they both charge equivalent 11% rake.  From $60 to $500 buy-ins, Carbon (8%) edges ACR (9%) by one percentage point.  At $500 and above Carbon's edge rises to three percentage points (6% vs. 9%).  Because of these edges in the larger buy-in tournaments, Carbon wins the tournament rake category.

Other Factors to Consider

  • Players playing one specific game and stake would be better off ignoring our overall grades and simply finding their respective stakes in the charts and choosing the room with lower rake.
  • These numbers also do not factor in rakeback.  In this case, ACR offers 27% rakeback while Carbon offers no rakeback.
  • Traffic also needs to be considered.  According to Pokerscout, Winning Poker Network (ACR) has just over taken Merge Network (Carbon Poker) in traffic, however, the lead is miniscule.   Therefore, it may be more helpful to check the specific games you want to play.

Overall Winner - Lowest U.S. Poker Rake

Americas Cardroom - Lowest US Rake Award Winner

No-Limit Holdem is still king, so the overall winner of the US-facing big guns rake comparison is Americas Cardroom, as they showed slight advantages in 6-Max and Full Ring NLHE.
