Season Two of the PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge broadcast schedule got underway Sunday. The show can be seen on Fox along side their NFL coverage.
The show is comprised of a series of heads-up no limit hold'em matches. In the first match the contestant plays a celebrity. During the match Daniel Negreanu sits with the contestant at the table and coaches them along the way. Celebrities scheduled to appear in season two include Dancing With The Stars co-host Brooke Burke, former Super Bowl champion and NFL MVP John Elway, former NFL star running back and Hall of Famer Barry Sanders, former Playboy Playmate of the Year Sara Jean Underwood and former NBA player Gary 'The Glove' Payton.
If the contestant wins their first round match they win a seat to the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and get a chance to play for $25,000 against a Team PokerStars Pro in the second match. During the match Negreanu is seated in an isolation booth and can give advice only the contestant can hear. Team PokerStars Pros scheduled to appear in season two include Chris Moneymaker, Barry Greenstein, Jason Mercier, David Williams and Vanessa Rousso.
If the contestant wins their round two match they can take the cash or decide to play Negreanu heads-up for $100,000 and a shot at $1 million by winning a seat at the Tournament of Champions at the end of the season. The contestant is completely on their own with no outside help.
The first episode that aired Sunday included contestant Jessica Cupini. Cupini is a single mother and a student at West Virginia University. Cupini's first round match was against Brooke Burke. Cupini advanced to the second round with a win and faced David Williams. She dispatched Williams and with encouragement from her family on hand she decided to face off against Negreanu. The fairy tale ending did not happen as Negreanu ended her run.
PokerStars is running freerolls four times per day now through December 8th to win a seat on the show. If you finish in the top 20 you are then asked to submit a short video telling PokerStars why you should be selected for the show.
Also, if you watch the telecast a password will be given out on the show to enter a $25,000 freeroll on PokerStars with first place winning $20,000.
