The final table of the PCA Main Event, broadcaston a one hour delay with hole cards on ESPN2, concluded Saturday with Californian Galen Hall capturing the title and $2.3 million after a heads-up duel with Floridian Chris Oliver.
The hand of the tournament by far occurred early on in the heads-up battle which could go down as one of the greatest laydowns in tournament poker history. Oliver started the hand with a 3:1 chip lead over Hall. With 2 million in the pot on the river and a board of 5-3-2-2-A, Oliver held A-2 for the full house and checked to Hall who was the aggressor in the hand. Hall holding 8-4 for the straight fired a pot sized bet of 2 million and Oliver shoved for Hall's remaining 8 million. Hall went deep into the tank and made a remarkable fold.
Hall earned a double-up when his A-2 flopped top and bottom pair against Oliver's 4-2 and flopped bottom two pair. The very next hand Hall doubled again and crippled Oliver in the process when his K-K held against Oliver's A-9. About a half-hour passed before the final hand occurred when Hall's A-8 outdrew Oliver's Q-Q to end it.
