In an interview with Steve Wynn published on the Forbes Magazine website Wednesday, a few of the details are revealed of just how the partnership between the casino mogul and PokerStars came to fruition. Author Nathan Vardi conducted the interview and pressed Wynn to explain his thoughts behind the partnership which was made official last month.
Wynn explains that he was slow to warm up to the idea of legalized online poker in the United States for many of the same reasons that previous attempts in congress have failed, including preventing underage minors from gambling.
After a few meetings last year with Isai Scheinberg, the founder of PokerStars, Wynn began to warm up to the idea of a partnership with the largest online poker room in the world, leading up to the partnership announced last month between the two companies.
Vardi expanded a bit on the interview in a blog post, also on the Forbes website, where he offers further details on how the deal was struck between PokerStars and Wynn Resorts.
One thing that comes across loud and clear in both the interview and blog post is that Nevada Senator Harry Reid, a longtime friend of Wynn’s, provided the nudge that Wynn needed to get on board with PokerStars and make a push for legalized online gaming in the U.S.
