It’s not like Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier doesn’t know how to win. He’s won plenty of times. We all remember that 1st place trophy ElkY took home at the 2003 Euro Cyber Games for his prowess in WarCraft, right?
Oh wait, we’re into ElkY’s second career choice now. You see, ElkY isn’t wired like most people. Sure he found success in the quirky world of video games where you can actually make money for playing Pac-Man (ok, maybe it isn’t that old school, but you get the picture), but that wasn’t enough for the French 30 year old. He decided to take up poker and his exploits on the felt have been well documented. He has over $6 million in tournament winnings, an EPT title, a WPT title and not to mention a victory in a $25K buy-in high-roller championship.
But the WSOP has been a victory-free zone for Grospellier until this year. ElkY finally filled the empty space in his trophy case that was reserved for a World Series of Poker bracelet by winning the $10,000 7-Card Stud event last week. The win gives ElkY the career Triple Crown (EPT, WPT, WSOP), the second player to do so at the WSOP this year along with Brit Jake Cody.
It took some work though, the heads up battle against Steve Landfish lasted four hours, and at one point ElkY faced a nearly 25-1 deficit in chips. Somehow he found a few cards and made a few plays to turn that deficit into a gold bracelet, and another $331,639 in winnings.
