PokerStars Releases Mobile Android App in Italy

By Matt Kaufman, Rakeback.com Poker News Editor

One month ago, PokerStars launched a real-money mobile poker application which could be used to play on PokerStars.it.

Although PokerStars Mobile is not yet available for customers who do not play on the Italian PokerStars.it, the rest of the world has anxiously watched this Italian experiment. After all, if PokerStars Mobile is a success in Italy, the odds are high that it will more quickly move to other markets.

When it first launched, the application was available for Apple iOS, meaning that only individuals with iPhones, iPads, or certain model iPods could use it. This left many people - in Italy and elsewhere - wondering, when will the app be available on Android-based devices?

The answer to that question is "now." This week, PokerStars officially released the full versioin of its mobile poker app, available for all devices using Android 2.2 or later.

Like its iOS counterpart, the application allows players to play real-money tournaments and ring games with a wide variety of options that you would typically only be able to find while using a computer.

The next step towards mobile poker freedom will be expansion to other markets, and there seem to be no significant barriers to that happening. Other regulated countries can expect mobile real-money poker in the not-too-distant future.
