The world's largest online poker room, PokerStars, has had a global following of internet players for as long as it has existed.
In recent years, they've made strides to expand their global reach to live tournaments as well, sponsoring the European Poker Tour, PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, Asia Pacific Poker Tour, UK & Ireland Poker Tour, and many others.
Although they already have a presence in South America via the Latin American Poker Tour, PokerStars has decided to narrow its focus in the largest market within South America - Brazil.
Yesterday, PokerStars announced that they are officially sponsoring the Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP). The stops on the tour for Season 1 will include São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, and Balneário Camboriú.
Participants should almost certainly expect Andre Akkari, the one member of Team PokerStars Pro who is a Brazilian native, to be in attendance at most - if not all - of these tournaments.
The first main event of the BSOP will take place in São Paulo on July 26th - July 31st. Satellites are currently running on PokerStars, so make sure you sign up for an account if you're interested in playing!
