Maria Lampropulos is the partypoker LIVE MILLION Champion

The partypoker LIVE MILLIONS tournament wrapped up last night at Dusk Till Dawn Casino in Nottingham, UK. Argentinian poker pro Maria Lampropulos topped the field to win £1,000,000 or about $1,281,700.

The partypoker LIVE MILLIONS is different from your everyday live multi table tournament. The event allowed players to qualify for the £5,300 main event via other live tournaments, as well as through online satellites at partypoker over the past six months.

The event had over 8,500 players take part in various stages and qualifiers, creating a massive prize pool of just over £6,000,000.

Score of a Lifetime

This was by far the biggest score of Lampropulos’ life. Previously she had just over $350,000 in career tournament earnings.

When heads up play began, Lampropulos and eventual runner up Jacob Mulhern of the UK were just about even, and Lampropulos wanted to make a deal for the money up top. Mulhern had other ideas and wanted to, as he put it “play for the million”.

Eventually, he’d settle for 2nd place and £650,000 when his AQ didn’t improve against Lampropulos’ pocket kings on the final hand of the tournament.

Following her massive win, she had this to say… “It really feels like a magic moment I’m in right now, I’m a little tired after such a difficult final table, but tomorrow I’ll realize what I did. He didn’t want to make a deal. He was convinced that he could win. Perhaps because I am a woman and he didn’t want to deal with a woman, but I trusted in my game, I just thought let’s play.”
