Black Chip Poker vs. iPoker Rake Comparison

By Taylor Cuccia, Rakeback.com Contributor

In this edition of poker rake comparisons, popular European network iPoker faces off against Winning Poker skin Black Chip Poker.  Using some of the most common poker games and stakes as comparisons, we will determine which site offers more favorable rake for which games.

Note that these rake figures are averages, and each player’s style will affect their rake paid.  In general, tighter players will pay less rake than loose players.

Additionally, players playing one specific game and stake would be better off ignoring our overall grades and simply finding their respective stakes in the charts and choosing the room with lower rake.

No Limit Holdem

Stake 6-Max NLHE (bb/100)
iPoker Black Chip Poker
25nl 11.27 9.91
50nl 10.40 9.00
100nl 8.93 7.64
200nl 6.45 5.71
400nl 4.37 3.77

With a clean sweep of fairly considerable edges, Black Chip Poker takes the 6-Max NLHE category.

Full Ring

Stake Full Ring NLHE (bb/100)
iPoker Black Chip Poker
25nl 8.31 7.11
50nl 7.63 7.28
100nl 6.78 6.58
200nl 4.87 5.11
400nl 3.48  3.65

Things are a bit murkier in full ring NLHE.  From 25nl-100nl, Black Chip has edges that decrease in significance as stakes increase.  At 200nl and 400nl iPoker overtakes Black Chip with small edges.

Black Chip has somewhat more significant edges but iPoker has the advantage in the bigger games we are looking at.  This one really depends on what stake is being played, so we’re declaring it a draw for this category.

PLO (6-Max)

Stake PLO (6-Max) (bb/100)
iPoker Black Chip Poker
25plo 21.37 20.97
50plo 18.65 18.03
100plo 14.83 14.39
200plo 10.51 10.19
400plo 6.85 6.60

Another clean sweep for Black Chip in PLO, though with less significant edges than with 6-max NLHE.  Regardless, Black Chip takes the PLO category.

Buy-In Level Tournaments
iPoker Black Chip Poker
<7 11% 11%
<60 11% 11%
<500 10% 9%
500+ 9% 9%

The only difference for tournament rake is a one percentage point Black Chip advantage in the <500 buy-in cateogry (9% vs 10%).  Its about as close to a draw as possible, but since all else is equal, Black Chip takes the tournament category by a hair.

Other Factors to Consider

  • These numbers do not factor in rakeback.  In this case, Black Chip Poker offers 27% rakeback while iPoker deals are made privately and vary greatly in value.  Rakeback.com currently offers 70% rakeback with iPoker site Winner Poker.
  • Traffic also needs to be considered.  According to Pokerscout, iPoker has about four times the traffic of Black Chip Poker (Winning Poker Network) on average.
  • iPoker does not accept US Players, while Black Chip does.

Overall Winner

With wins in every category besides the draw in full ring NLHE, US facing skin Black Chip Poker takes down European-based network iPoker in our rake comparison.
