PokerStars North American Poker League
The PokerStars North American Poker League is a series of low buy-in tournaments open to players from the U.S. and Canada. Each tournament has cash prizes for the top finishers as usual, but also awards NAPL league points. These points are tabulated in leaderboards for each of three separate divisions: Senior Division, Rookie Division (U.S.), and Rookie Division (Canada).
Every day, there’s one tournament for each of the three divisions. Here’s a chart with the exact details:
At the end of every month, PokerStars awards bonus cash to the top 100 points earners in each category. The winner in the senior division takes home $200, while the rookie division winners in the U.S. and Canada get $160 and $80, respectively.
NAPL Strategy
Every entrant in a NAPL tourney takes home at least one league point, but the points are mostly concentrated in the 99 spots. If you can only play a few of the tournaments every month, your best bet is to aim for the final table even if it requires you to play somewhat recklessly—but if you’re able to play almost every day, stay patient and just try to finish in the top 99 every time. It will pay off in the long run.
