Revolution Gives Up on Skill Segregation
By Matthew Marietta, Rakeback.com Executive Editor
The Revolution network has abandoned “Fair Play Technology”, a system of player segregation that it introduced in March.
The system put players in three categories based on an algorithm that estimated player skill. Players on the lowest tier had access to tables which were hidden from those in the top tier, those in the middle tier could join any table.
The system attempted to protect weaker players and provide them with more entertainment time for their dollar, but the impact on liquidity at some games has led to it being dropped by Revolution. Now all players can join all tables; good news for sharks, but good news for new players too, because they now have more chance of getting a seat when they want one.
Individual rooms on the network retain the right to segregate their own players, and some may be doing this for some games, but Cake Poker is one of the rooms which has adopted a complete open door policy.
Cake was the original creator of the network, a poker room run by poker players for poker players. The network was rebranded Revolution when the ownership changed after Lock Poker joined the network.
PartyPoker recently introduced a segregation system based on similar principles, and even PokerStars has introduced measures to reduce the pressure on weaker players.
